Best Breeds Of Chickens For Pets

Hopefully if you are reading this you are in the market for chickens and are planning on having a chicken coop or already have one in your yard. Chickens make amazing pets and will lay you fresh eggs every week. They will also eat bugs and pests which may cause harm to your yard and garden. So not only are they very friendly pets, they also will help around the yard! I have come up with a list of some of the better breeds to look into when deciding what kinds to buy. This is not a complete list, but should get you on your way to narrowing your choices down.

Australorps make great pets and lay brown eggs. They are known for being extremely friendly and can be picked up, these are great chickens if you have kids. These are usually brown or black chickens.

The Mille Fleur is the most popular chicken breed. They do very well as pets and are small birds, called bantam birds. The roosters in this breed can also be friendly sometimes. Another thing that makes these fun birds to have is that they are very colorful.

Plymouth Rock chickens lay brown eggs and are very friendly chickens, which make great pets. Barred Rock hens are the most common of this breed and have white and black striped feathers.

The next breed that are both great for laying eggs and as pets are the Rhode Island Reds and Whites. You should try to stay clear of the roosters in his breed though, as they can be pretty aggressive. These birds can handle most weather conditions without a complaint. This is probably the most famous chicken breed in the world and lays more eggs than almost any other chicken at about 260 a year.

The Wyandotte is a very nice looking bird and makes a great pet. They lay brown eggs. Some are not as friendly as others, but for the most part they get along well with people.

The Japanese Bantam is a smaller bird but has a large tail that points towards the sky. They are very cute birds, but don’t lay many eggs. If egg production isn’t your main concern I would look into this wonderful bird as it makes a great pet.

This list was not supposed to tell you the only breeds of chickens to buy, but hopefully gave you a start in narrowing down your search of which breeds you think will be best for your yard and family. Chickens are a ton of fun to have in your yard and garden and make great pets for the family while providing you with fresh eggs. I hope you enjoy having chickens as pets as much as I do. Good luck finding your perfect chickens!

Proactive Methods For Finding Lost Pets

A walk through just about any neighborhood will reveal several lost pet flyers attached to trees, utility poles and other noticeable areas. Cats, dogs, birds and other pets are known to escape the boundaries that their owners set for them. While most will return home after a bit of adventure, many more will stay out long enough to worry their owners. If you are in search of your missing pet, it will benefit to take on a search plan right away. The quicker you act, the less distance your pet can put between themselves and your home.

Pets have become essential parts of the family that most of us wish to protect. If you notice that your pet is missing, you will be happy to discover that there are numerous online websites that focus on recovering lost pets. Before resorting to such measures, however, search the area around your home. A standard guideline is to cover a two-mile radius before expanding your search further. Gather friends and family to help with your search. Many people will see lost pets wandering about and think that their owners are already aware that their pet is outside. Therefore, notify your neighbors that your pet is missing and tell them to give you a call should they spot them. On that note, always leave contact information and keep your cell phone handy while you are out looking.

If your pet is micro-chipped, call the provider to let them know that they are missing. Call local animal shelters and other organizations that often deal with the recovery of lost pets. Always leave home and work phone numbers where people can reach you.

The pet industry has come up with many innovative ways to to prevent missing pets. GPS collars and microchips are two such devices that will help track your pet’s whereabouts. GPS collars can be pricey, but may be worth the cost if you have a dog that wanders often. Microchips are relatively inexpensive. At about $40 per microchip, this tiny device is inserted between your animal’s shoulder blades so that they can be identified by animal shelters and other organizations that have appropriate scanners. In addition to these precautions, make sure that your pet is wearing a collar that fits well and includes a tag with all of your contact information. By taking these steps, lost pets have become less of an issue and are often reunited with their owners much faster than was possible in the past.

Pets In The Classroom Program Launches New Grant Options

The Pet Care Trust is pleased to announce an expansion of its successful Pets in the Classroom program through partnerships with pet supply retailer Pet Supermarket and science and math education supplier Carolina Biological Supply.

The new partnerships will provide elementary school teachers with six different grant options to aid in funding a classroom pet, allowing teachers to find the option most suitable to his or her needs. We are delighted to have the support of a growing number of pet product companies that understand the importance of teaching kids about responsible pet care, commented Pet Care Trust executive director Steve King. In the next few weeks, we will issue our 10,000th Pets in the Classroom grant, and the number of grants will continue to grow rapidly thanks to the generous support of all our sponsors.

Pet Supermarket, a chain of more than130 pet stores located primarily in the Southeastern U.S., will become the third pet retailer to partner with the Trust to provide a custom coupon grant for teachers through the Pets in the Classroom program. Specialty pet retailers PETCO and PetSmart began issuing custom coupons for teachers last fall and have provided more than 4,000 classroom grants to date. These grant options provide approved teachers with coupons redeemable at retail stores for the essential supplies required for the classroom pet, as well as a coupon valued at 50% off the everyday retail price of the animal.

Carolina Biology Supply, the largest supplier of science kits to schools throughout the U.S., will aid the Trust in providing a grant option specifically for teachers interested in obtaining fish for their classroom. The Carolina Biological Supply Grant will provide the teachers who opt for this grant option with an aquarium and three GloFish that will be shipped directly to them.

The other two successful grant options available to teachers include the Rebate Grant, which allows teachers to purchase a new classroom pet and supplies and receive reimbursement from the program for up to $150, and the Sustaining Grant, which allows teachers with existing classroom pets to be reimbursed up to $50 each year for needed pet supplies.

The Pet Care Trust is a non-profit, charitable, public foundation that is instrumental in the sponsorship of programs supporting companion animal welfare and the benefits of owning companion pets as well as the development of educational programs demonstrating the importance of responsible companion animal ownership. To date, more than 9,300 grants have been awarded to teachers through the Pets in the Classroom program.

Monkeys Have Strong Abs And You Can Too! Just Hang Out…

During my recent trip to Costa Rica I got to go super zen and view nature from an un-American viewpoint. One thing you have to see when you are in Costa rica is the many packs of monkeys that inhabit the region. Swinging to and fro, throwing poo at each other, and occasionally getting in to your car and stealing whatever they can get their hands on is a common occurrence. Did you ever think about how they are able to swing all over the damn place all day and not get tired? Of course it is easy to say, “Well, they are monkeys.” but they don’t just pop out of their mom and start gathering bananas. (Can’t officially verify that.)
After oooooing, awwwwing, and then chasing those damn monkeys for stealing my Alanis Morissette cd’s, I finally decided in order to have a chance at getting even, I must “train like a monkey”. So here is an excellent exercise to get a full ab workout and all you have to do is “hang out”.
Hanging Knee Raises
This is an extremely tough exercise that lets you work out your lower abs and your serratus muscles.
1. Grab a pull up bar, palms out, with your arms should width apart
2. Slowly lift your knees towards your chest making sure you are squeezing your abs the whole time – keep your feet off the ground for the whole exercise.
3. Rinse and repeat to exhaustion
That’s it. A ridiculous ab workout. If you really want to target those serratus muscles, alternate lifting your legs to each side.
NOTE: It is almost a given that your wrists will give out before you abs will. In that case hang some straps from the pull up bar and slip your arms through just past your elbow. After your arms are through, the straps can help you work out your abs to exhaustion.
Got a good ab exercise you want to let the world know about? Anyone see my Alanis cd’s? Let us know in the comments.

Fish Oil For Cats For Beautiful Fur And Optimal Health

Does your cat have dry, hairless patches? Does he show signs of low or absolutely no energy and stiff joints? Maybe you need to get him a pharmaceutical grade fish oil with omega-3 fatty acids supplement. Say what? You might be considering right this moment. Well, much like fish oil with omega-3 fatty acids for humans, fish oil with omega-3 fatty acids for cats could help boost their immune system, cognitive functions, arthritis, behavior, cholesterol levels, offer cancer prevention and provides them a vibrant coat.

Fish oil with Omega-3 fatty acids for cats may also help with swelling which, if left untreated, can lead to such problems as strokes, heart-attacks, high-cholesterol, early death, and numerous various kinds of infections.

It’s really efficient in treating a multitude of overall health difficulties and maximizing their survival rate. Veterinarians are utilizing fish oil with omega-3 fatty acids for cats as part of a regular treatment routine simply because they are much more easily absorbed into the system and show results quicker than most of the others.

Exactly like our food, their food does not have the extra Omega-3 fatty acids which they require just as much as we do. You might be asking yourself why you should be worried about this kind of a minor dietary detail for a cat, yet let’s face it, exactly what would we do without our furry friends? Study demonstrates those who own pets have significantly much less health difficulties than people who don’t special pets.

It’s been proven that pet owners have a reduced heart attack mortality rate by 3%, better psychological well-being, lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels, much less anxiety, and visit the physician less than people who do not have pets.

Research also demonstrates that kids who’ve domestic pets develop a nurturing nature that might keep on into adult-hood, remain involved with extracurricular activities, such as sports, clubs, and hobbies, have enhanced cognitive capabilities, and much less allergies when subjected to pets throughout the 1st years of life.

After providing your cat fish oil, you might not see a difference for some months. That is simply because, again, just like us, their systems change from within. From individual cells, to tissues, to internal organs, and ultimately the hair and skin become radiant. You do not need to purchase a special fish oil with omega-3 fatty acids for cats, the ones we use works perfectly.

Omega-3 fatty acids that provide most benefits are DHA and EPA. Examine labels very carefully to find the purest form of omega-3 fatty acids fish oil which filter out harmful toxins in the fish from the water streams they come from, making sure it’s already been molecularly distilled in order to filter the harmful toxins that consist of the dangerous chemicals mercury and dioxin. It’s correct our cats need all of us for his or her health just like we need them for our well being.

Can Mediums Contact Pets Who Have Died The Startling Truth About Your Pets, and the Afterlife!

Do pets go to heaven? Is there an animal heaven that is different from where people go? Or do we all go to the very same place? And if there IS a heaven for pets, is it possible for a psychic medium to contact them? In this article we are going to tackle the topic of animals and the afterlife, and see if we can’t offer you a little bit of hope that you WILL see your favorite pets again in the future. Curious to know more? Great…continue reading as we take a closer look below!

Filed Under: Is there proof that pets “survive” bodily death?

There absolutely is, yes. And while there isn’t nearly as much as there is for humans, it’s only because pet’s simply don’t communicate the same way when they appear to us after they’ve crossed! Remember, most of the best evidence of the afterlife has come from psychic mediums, seances, crisis apparitions, ghostly images and appearances, near death experiences and that sort of thing. And usually, the ONLY evidence that’s considered super strong (and scientifically supports) the idea of an afterlife is that which can verified, and authenticated. (as in spirit communications, for example)

And when your pet can’t “talk” the very same way as we do…..getting that sort of proof is often far more difficult!

But what we do know is this:

Mediums “see” our pets. They will often intuit, or emphasize with the emotions being conveyed by our pets. (which not surprisingly is often pure unconditional love) Many of the most famous psychic mediums working today have dedicated a lot of attention to animals in the afterlife, and prominent medium George Anderson has written about contacting pets in his readings on many, many occasions.

The truth? I’ve had one of MY pets come through in a telephone reading with a medium, and there was NO way, by any ordinary, objective measure you could explain how this medium knew, specific details of the pets’ name, breed and odd habits OTHER than for me to believe she was making authentic contact. The truth is….while some find it hard to believe, this reading gave me MORE “proof” in the existence of a soul (and an afterlife) than many of the contact made with my human family on the other side..:-)

The bottom line?

A good medium CAN contact your favorite pet once they’ve left this life, and if you are anything like me, that’s an experience you will not only ALWAYS remember, it’s also exceptionally meaningful (and comforting) as well.

Once you have treated your pets the Frontline for cats products will get to work treating existing fleas. They should be killed within 24 hours and will drop off naturally.

You will need to use the Frontline Spot On products regularly to maintain protection against fleas (every four weeks).

This can be combined with Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) products that can treat eggs and larvae already present in your home.

This can help to break the flea life cycle and prevent infestations from taking over your home.
